Judging rubric
Each judge scored the levels out of 100 points, with the final score being the average over all three judges. The breakdown was as follows:
- Uniqueness (15 points)
- Personal Fun Factor (25 points)
- Other Person Fun Factor (25 points)
- Music (10 points)
- Graphics (10 points)
- Character Use (5 points)
- Level Name Adherence (10 points)
A contestant had the chance to mulligan either their list of names or set of characters for a 3 point penalty, or both for a 5 point penalty. Contestants could request a mulligan as many times as they wished, but at the cost of additional points lost.
Extra points were awarded based on the level name difficulty. In particular, entries that used "hard" names were given an additional 2 points and those that used "medium" names received 1 extra point. If a level used an "easy" name, then there was no impact on the final score. This system was originally adopted to reduce the likelihood of ties. However, submission time was eventually used as the tiebreaker instead - entries that were submitted earlier had 0.01 points added to the final score, recursively as many times as necessary.
